Scientific Focus

Current Research and Scholarly Interests

One of my research focuses is in immigrant and minority child health, with a primary focus on Latino children. My research has explored the health status of Latino children by examining their growth patterns, prevalence of chronic illness, perceptions of health, and their access to health care. Currently, I am examining the health and development of children in immigrant families, with a particular focus on children 0 to 5 years.

Another research interest is in diversity in the health professions; particularly in the area of pediatrics. Children are the most diverse component of the U.S. populations and suffer health disparities partially based on their diverse backgrounds.Developing a diverse pediatric workforce is necessary for the provision of effective health care. This includes the development of effective pipeline, leadership programs, and effective cultural competency curriculum.
