Scientific Focus
Current Research Interests
My current research is focused on the issue of obesity among Latino children, with particular attention to children who live in immigrant families. With California having a large proportion of Latino children particularly of Mexican heritage, examining the factors that contribute to over-weight and obesity on both sides of the border is key in determining how to address the present epidemic of obesity among Latino children. The factors that contribute to this maybe a combination of SES and cultural changes. My research is directed at examining these factors, as well as understanding how the experiences in Mexico may contribute to the prevalence of overweight and obesity among the children of immigrant families.
