Medical center offers matching funds to aid Haiti relief effort

In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the School of Medicine, the Department of Medicine and Stanford Hospital & Clinics have offered a dollar-for-dollar challenge grant of $25,000 to support relief efforts there.
The funds will support patient care at Hospital Albert Schweitzer in Port-Au-Prince, which withstood the quake and is functioning as a major treatment center for mass casualties. It remains one of the few institutions providing care for the many thousands of individuals injured in the calamity.
“I and others at Stanford have worked at this hospital since the 1980s and trust that the money will be well-spent,” said Michele Barry, MD, the medical school’s senior associate dean for global health. “This is one of the few hospitals still standing near Port-Au-Prince, and it is being overwhelmed with patients who are streaming in.”
Those interested in donating to the challenge grant can pay by credit card at: http://www.hashaiti.org/C1a_w1.html. Please indicate in the credit card payment that this is a “tribute gift” so that it will be matched. Enter Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford University Department of Medicine or Stanford University Hospital, depending on your affiliation. Checks or money orders also may be sent to Hopital Albert Schweitzer, P.O. Box 81046, Pittsburgh, PA 15217. Please make checks to HAS and indicate your Stanford affiliation on the memo line.
