Stanford Hospital & Clinics is now the San Francisco 49ers’ official healthcare partner.
The new alliance, which kicked off during the pre-season, will give 49ers fans the opportunity at home games to talk to medical staff from various parts of the hospital, such as the Heart Center, Neurosciences Center and Cancer Center, and pick up free educational materials at a booth in “Faithful City,” near Gate 4 of Candlestick Park.
On Monday, Sept. 20, staff from Transplant Services will be at the stadium for the team’s first home game of the season, signing up people to be organ donors.

Stanford Hospital & Clinics has provided all of the 49ers medical care since 2007, when Daniel Garza, MD, an emergency and sports medicine physician at the hospital, became the team’s medical director.
“We are very fortunate to have the seamless, efficient and world-class medical care from Stanford,” said Jeff Ferguson, head athletic trainer for the 49ers.
The other team physicians, all Stanford Hospital doctors, are William Maloney, MD, chair of Stanford's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Gary Fanton, MD, and Timothy McAdams, MD – both orthopaedic surgeons specializing in sports medicine.
“Making a timely diagnosis and coming up with a treatment plan quickly is important to the 49ers, and that’s where we excel at Stanford,” Maloney said. “All of their care is managed through one place – we’re interacting with the radiologists, cardiologists and every other specialist here at the hospital – so they get the most efficient and high-quality care.”
