Fibroids are benign tumors of the uterus that are a common cause of heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pain and pressure in women. Uterine fibroid embolization (also known as uterine artery embolization) represents a fundamentally new approach to the treatment of fibroids. Embolization is a minimally invasive means of blocking the arteries that supply blood to the fibroids. This talk will focus on this new, less invasive technique for management of uterine fibroids that require treatment.
