Medical Benefits of Music
Music has been used in all cultures to uplift and invigorate, as well as calm and ease.

"The power of music to integrate and cure is quite fundamental.  It is the most profound non-chemical medication."
     — Oliver Sacks, Awakenings

Music in the Intensive Care Unit and with cancer patients has been shown to reduce pain perception, alter blood pressure and respiration, ameliorate chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, and increase relaxation and improve mood.

“Half an hour of music produces the same effect as ten milligrams of valium.”
     — Dr. Raymond Bahr

Caregiver’s Concert Series
This series features music performed by members of Stanford’s caregiver community - our physicians, nurses, therapists, technicians and caregiver administrators. These concerts provide them the opportunity to show another side of their talents and the audience a chance to hear some great music!

The inaugural concert in January featured the Hypertonics, a sextet all hailing from the Neurosciences department.  The next concert takes place on Thursday, May 26, and will feature Quartetto Sugoi, a string ensemble performing Mendelssohn Op. 12 and Mozart No. 14.  The Caregiver’s Concerts take place approximately every three months and are held in the Cantor Art Museum Auditorium at Stanford University, 7:30-8:30 pm. The concerts are free and open to the public but seating is limited. Early arrival is suggested.
