Order Sets

More than 600 order sets are readily available in Epic to support clinician order entry.  To ensure that we address your most important items first, we have established a multi-disciplinary group that meets weekly to review new requests, whether submitted directly by end users or through our informatics consultation services.

Upon receipt of your request, an Informatics Specialist will review the details you provided and will contact you if additional information is needed.  All requests are then presented by your liaison to the Order Set Oversight Committee (OSOC). The OSOC approves the order set as-is or determines if revisions are needed before the request can move forward.

Once a request is approved by the OSOC, it is scored/prioritized (see Criteria and Calculation below) and, as needed, is submitted to various approval groups such as the Lab, Pharmacy, Radiology, and Quality Improvement & Patient Safety. In addition, the OSOC engages Physician Leaders throughout the organization as needed to review and approve requests for their specialty area(s). Please contact your physician delegate if you would like to request a new or make a change to an existing order set .

Scoring Criteria - All enhancement requests are scored according to strict criteria in each of the following categories:

    1. Patient Safety
    2. Compliance
    3. Quality and Effectiveness
    4. Financial
    5. User Productivity and Satisfaction
    6. Scope

Calculation - Once scoring is complete, then a total score is calculated for each request using a formula with weighted averages.  The sum of these individual scores is then multiplied by the scope or impact of the change to reach the total score.

Request an Order Set - Contact your physician delegate if you would like to request a new or make a change to an existing order set .
