Rehabilitation Internship Program
Program Description
The Rehabilitation Services Department at Stanford Hospital and Clinics offers internship programs in acute care and out-patient orthopedic and hand therapy for students enrolled in accredited university professional programs in:
- Occupational Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Speech Therapy
Interns in acute care are typically assigned to a service, such as orthopedics, oncology, neurology, neurosurgery, cardiovascular, psychiatry and general medical surgical services, including critical care. In the out-patient setting, physical therapy interns may be assigned to the sports and orthopedic clinic, and occupational therapy interns may be assigned to the hand therapy program. Speech therapy interns are assigned to acute care. Interns who are here for longer stays (four or more months) may be able to work on more than one service, but this must be prearranged with the Stanford Clinical Education Coordinator. Interns are encouraged to observe on other units and participate in education programs for all services, as well as in-services, medical rounds, and other learning opportunities during the internship.
The intern will meet behavioral objectives established by their school and Stanford Hospital to successfully complete the experience. We individualize the teaching and setting to help the learner develop clinical competency skills.
