The Hand Therapy Department at Stanford has a core group of dynamic, board certified hand therapists who treat a large variety of hand injuries and disabilities, including:
- trauma
- tendon nerve injuries and repairs
- sports injuries
- repetitive stress injuries
- entrapment syndromes
- Myofascial pain
- fractures and dislocations
- soft tissue injuries
- reconstructive hand surgeries
- complex regional pain syndrome
Although our philosophy is very much hands-on, we also employ electrical, sound and thermal modalities to enhance and increase the effectiveness of treatment.
Our Hand Therapy Team
Donna Lashgari, MS, OTR/L, CHT
Advanced Clinical Specialist, Occupational Therapist
Donna has been a practicing OT since 1972 and has worked in multiple settings, both inpatient and outpatient. She began specializing in hand therapy in 1980 and presented conferences throughout California and Hawaii to prepare therapists for the first national board certification exams in hand therapy in 1991. She was a founding board member of the California Chapter of the American Society of Hand Therapy and served as treasurer for 5 years. She is presently a standing board member of the physical disabilities SIS of American Occupational Therapy Association, serving as professional development coordinator. She is a guest lecturer at San Jose State University. Donna graduated with a Bachelor’s in Occupational Therapy from USC, and a Master’s degree from San Francisco State University in Health Science.
Leta Jones, PT, CHT
Senior Physical Therapist
Leta Jones graduated from Oregon State University and then went to the University of California Medical Center to receive her degree in Physical Therapy. She started her career at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco and worked in general in and outpatient PT as well as the work hardening program, home care and extended care. She specialized in burn rehabilitation seeing not only acute burn patients but also outpatient burn rehab patients and Clinic follow-ups. She has published articles, presented national papers and taught physical therapy students and other health professionals about physical therapy for the burn patient. In 1989, Leta started at Stanford helping to rebuild the Hand Therapy program. She has been a Certified Hand Therapist since 1991, the first year the National Board Exam was held. Since then she has worked with all types of upper extremity and hand problems including nerve compression problems, CRPS, chronic pain, and fractures. She also treats post-mastectomy shoulder and chest pain and is skilled treating myofascial trigger point problems.
Susan Clark, OTR/L, CHT
Senior Occupational Therapist
Sue is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and has been a registered Occupational Therapist since 1979. Her career has included work in rehab settings, acute care hospitals, burn units, and private practice. After moving to California in 1985 she specialized in hand therapy, became a Certified Hand Therapist in 1994, and has been treating hand injuries in the bay area for over 25 years. Sue joined Stanford Hospital and Clinics in 2006. Her expertise is in treating sports injuries, tendon repairs and transfers, traumatic hand injuries and arthritis. She enjoys splinting and instructing other therapists in splinting techniques. Sue is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists and has been active in the ASHT California Chapter since its inception, serving as the Treasurer for many years and now serving on the Board as the Director of Education.
Carolyn Gordon, OTR/L, CHT
Senior Occupational Therapist
Carolyn is a graduate of the University of New England where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 1988. Carolyn became a board certified CHT in 1994 and has been working in outpatient hands and upper extremity disorders for the past 23 years. She has presented at numerous conferences and co authored a chapter in the Plastic Surgery Hand and Upper Limb book as well as served as an editor for the Hand Surgery annals for a number of years. She served as the Clinical Coordinator for Stanford's clinical trials using collagenase for treatment of Dupuytren's Disease. Carolyn has been working at Stanford for the past 15 years where she specializes in hand/elbow trauma, sports injuries, tendon/nerve injuries, tendonitis and arthritis.
Monina Copuaco, OTR, CHT
Senior Occupational Therapist
Monina received her OT degree from the College of St. Catherine in Minnesota. She has worked in inpatient and outpatient settings in different parts of the United States and came to Stanford in 1988. She enjoys working with traumatic injuries, fractures, repetitive injuries, and tendon and nerve injuries. The reward of working with patients with varying diagnosis and cultural diversity and working collaboratively with other professionals keeps her enthusiastic about her profession. She has been an active board member of the American Society of Hand Therapists, California chapter since the late 1990s.
Lou Brooke, OTR, CHT
Senior Occupational Therapist
Lou graduated from Texas Woman's University in 1982 and has been practicing Hand Therapy in California for over 20 years. Prior to her move to California, she practiced in both Florida and Texas. She has treated patients with various diagnoses involving the upper extremity, but particularly enjoys providing therapy for those with tendon and nerve injuries, replantations/amputations, and fractures. Like her colleagues, she is a member of ASHT and the California chapter and enjoys networking with other Hand Therapists to discuss new and evolving treatment procedures and protocols.
Jennifer Devich, MS, OTR/L, CHT
Senior Occupational Therapist
Jennifer graduated from Santa Clara University and received her Master's in Occupational Therapy from San Jose State University. Prior to specializing in hand therapy, she worked on the inpatient units at Stanford Hospital and in acute rehab on the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. In May of 2010, Jennifer became a Certified Hand Therapist after completing her internship in the Hand and Upper Extremity Clinics at Stanford. She loves splinting and collaborating with other therapists to develop treatment plans and protocols to best rehabilitate hand injured clients. She also specializes in working with traumatic injuries, tendon and nerve injuries, fractures and repetitive stress injuries. Jennifer is a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists as well as the California chapter of ASHT. In her free time, she enjoys running, yoga, snowboarding and traveling.
