The Emergency Department is located at the back of the hospital off Quarry Road, with a parking lot just outside the entrance for Emergency Department patients, visitors and EMS personnel. After you have turned on to Pasteur Drive from Sand Hill Road, take a left on Welch Road , follow the street as it curves right, take a right on Quarry Road, and the ED entrance will be on the right-hand side (follow the signs).
This is a 23-bed department staffed by board certified Emergency Medicine physicians, residents, and nursing staff with specialized training in Emergency, Pediatric, and Trauma Nursing.
In addition, our Patient Admitting Representatives, Unit Secretaries, and Volunteers are ready to meet your needs. Emergency Department visits this year are expected to reach 40,000 patients.
Farewell to Falls, a program of the Trauma Center at Stanford, is working with older adults to help reduce falls.

- No appointments are necessary
- We do not give medical advice over the telephone. Feel free to come to the Emergency Department at any time or call your private physician for medical advice
- Patients arrive by private car, taxi, ambulances, and helicopter (Life Flight)
- Fully staffed Emergency Department
- Pediatric Emergency Medicine expertise--Pediatric evaluation available 24 hours/day
- Spanish interpreters on staff 24 hours/day, with ability to obtain other language interpreters either in hospital or by phone
- Stroke team immediately available to Emergency Department
- Specialty physicians on call to the E.D. (Cardiology, Surgery, Medicine, Orthopedics, Gynecology, Psychiatry, Plastics are some examples)
- X-ray, Lab, C.T. Scan and Ultrasound testing available 24 hours/day
- Trauma Care 24 hours/day -- Regional Trauma Center for Northern and mid California* Life Flight helicopter pad on roof
