Sleep Surgery at Stanford Hospital & Clinics

Anywhere from 18 to 50 million people in the United States have obstructive sleep apnea (a consensus on numbers is hard to come by; with prevalence estimated at 9 to 24% of adult men, and 4 to 9% of women), possibly more than any other chronic disease. Unfortunately, at least 80 percent of such patients go untreated.

The management of OSA poses a significant challenge, since there is enormous variability and complexity on sleep architecture, daytime consequences, airway structure, severity of obstruction, tolerance to CPAP, success rate of a given surgical or dental procedure and ultimately, identify who benefits from some form of treatment.

At Stanford Sleep Surgery Division, our sleep surgeons work in close association with Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic, offering background, experience, structure and state of the art procedures, but most importantly available facts about all treatments to provide patients with the best possible result. As investigators and innovators we will continually strive to advance the field of sleep surgery by relentlessly working to create and translate the latest science into clinical care.
