Patient Education

As part of the pretransplant evaluation process, all referred patients meet with a liver transplant nurse coordinator for a 90-minute educational session regarding all aspects of liver transplantation.

Patients also are encouraged to attend the Liver Transplant Support Group directed by our liver transplant social workers, which is also an important educational process in understanding the variable outcomes of liver transplantation. At this time, patients are also provided with written materials outlining all aspects of liver transplantation for reading and review.

Ward nurses and the in-house physicians' assistant educate inpatients daily.

At discharge, we provide patients with our Stanford Liver Transplant Discharge Manual, a binder of complete information regarding all details of post-transplant management.

Also, Stanford Hospital & Clinics offers an extensive online resource of general health information. Please use the links on the left hand side to learn more about liver disorders.
