For the fourth consecutive year, Stanford Hospital’s Kidney Transplant Program has the best one-year survival rate — about 98 percent — out of a nationwide field of 246 centers evaluated in the latest report from the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.

The Adult Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation Program was established at Stanford in 1991, and is currently directed by Dr. Stéphan Busque. Since its inception, over 1200 kidney transplants and 120 pancreas transplants have been performed.

Building on Stanford's long-standing history of research in transplant immunology and clinical immunosuppression, the program aims to engender clinical transplantation research focusing on strategies to minimize side effects of chronic immunosuppression and to improve long-term outcomes.

The program applies progressive clinical protocols with regular outcome assessment to meet the needs and expectations of each patient, family, and referring physician.
