Is Preventive Cardiology the Lipid Clinic at Stanford?

Although that was never the official name, some people referred to this clinic as the Lipid Clinic. There is no separate Lipid Clinic at Stanford and most patients referred here for cholesterol problems are seen in the Preventive Cardiology Clinic. Some patients with lipid disorders, particularly very high triglyceride levels, may be seen in the Endocrinology Clinic.

Are your services covered by insurance?
Depending on your insurance coverage, most often the services are covered if you have a medical   diagnoses such as abnormal cholesterol or   high blood pressure, It is always   best to check with your insurance company first.

What are some alternative therapies?
Lifestyle interventions are the cornerstone of our therapeutic approach. You may also be eligible for ongoing research studies at the The Stanford Prevention Research Center (SPRC) 

What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?

  1. Confirm your Preventive Cardiology Clinic appointment day and time.    
    You should plan on being at the clinic for approximately one to two hours. Be aware that there are numerous construction projects around the medical center causing traffic delays.   Please allow ample time for travel and parking.  
  2. If you are instructed to obtain additional laboratory test, please arrive fasting for 12 hours.   This means, nothing to eat or drink, except for water for 12 hours prior to your blood draw.
  3. Please bring the results of any relevant or requested laboratory tests. We have access to your Stanford test results.
  4. Please complete  the  online Food Frequency Questionnaire at your earliest convenience according to the instructions sent via e-mail.  
  5. Please  print and bring the completed Cardiovascular Clinic Patient Questionnaire form to your appointment.  
  6. Please bring any medical or personal records that you may have that relate to previous  hospitalizations, cardiovascular risk factor values and/or treatment. We have access to your Stanford records.

How do I  rescheduling my appointment?
If you need to reschedule your appointment for any reason, please call the Cardiovascular Medicine Clinic at (650) 723-6459.   We appreciate a call at least one week prior to your new patient visit if your plans change for any reason.

How do I refill my prescription?
If you need your prescription refilled, please contact your pharmacy and ask them to contact us directly by phone (650) 725-5027 or fax (650) 725-6247.

How do I get to the Preventive Cardiology Clinic?
The  Preventive Cardiology Clinic is located on the second floor of the Boswell Building in Cardiovascular Medicine Clinic.  See directions and maps.
