Patient Education
| The links provided on the right will help you learn more about your care following transplantation. They provide specific guidelines for your hospital stay, and also serve as a general source of information after you are discharged from the hospital. The education process begins in the intensive care unit (ICU) where you will spend time increasing your physical strength, monitoring physiologic changes, and learning some basic facts about anatomy, physiology and medications. From the ICU, you will be transferred to a general hospital room. To assure continuity of your care, a primary nurse will work with you in setting and attaining your goals throughout your education and rehabilitation in the hospital. This will increase your independence and help you feel secure in making your own decisions. |
As you familiarize yourself with the following information, feel free to ask questions of your primary nurse or physicians. It is important that you understand as much information as possible, and time will be arranged for informal teaching sessions during your hospital stay.
Members of the Cardiopulmonary Transplantation Program at Stanford will assist you in leading an active and productive life. Our staff will guide you in that pursuit and we hope our common goals are achieved.
