Arrhythmia Surgery
For patients suffering from cardiac arrhythmias, Stanford offers the following specific services:
-
Atrial fibrillation ablation operations at the time of other cardiac procedures.
Atrial fibrillation surgery (MAZE Procedure) is performed when indicated in conjunction with another heart surgery. The Maze Procedure can also be performed by an electrophysiologist in the cardiac cath lab when another heart surgery is not indicated.
The MAZE Procedure is performed by Cardiothoracic surgeons on the left or right atrium or both for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. The surgical procedure consists of creating a number of incisions in the atrium that disrupt the fibrillation. The atrium can no longer fibrillate, and the normal rhythm of the heart is restored.
-
Cardiac resynchronization
-
Cardiac pacemaker insertion
- Insertion of implantable cardiovertor-defibrillators
