Lymphatic & Venous Disorders

Active Clinical Research

Our center is actively recruiting patients for the following research protocols:

Lymphedema Early Detection

This protocol is open to patients at risk for lymphedema (prior lymph node removal and/or radiation therapy). Participation includes a visit every three months for a simple, painless, non-invasive measurement to detect excess fluid (bioimpedance spectroscopy) and collection of a small blood sample.

Lymphedema Prevention

Based upon exciting preliminary animal studies, we believe that we have an effective, safe drug-treatment strategy to prevent the appearance of lymphedema in patients at risk. This is a placebo-controlled trial in which treatment occurs for one year following enrollment, with periodic follow-up at Stanford.

Lymphedema Drug Treatment

Similarly, based on animal studies, we have a safe drug treatment strategy to help restore lymphedema tissues back toward normal. This is a six-month treatment protocol and all patients receive drug therapy.

If you are interested in potentially participating in these studies, or have any research-related questions, please call the clinical research coordinator, Leslie Roche, R.N. at (650)723-1396.
