Clinical Trials

The Stanford Amyloid Center is dedicated to the mission of better understanding amyloidosis, and to evaluating the newest and most promising therapeutic options.

The primary method to further medical knowledge is by pursuing research, both at a basic science/molecular level, as well as by conducting clinical trials.  Clinical trials are aimed at testing whether new state-of-the-art therapies for a disease offer superior results, and are the method by which nearly all new medications are evaluated.

Current clinical trials at the Stanford Amyloid Center include:

AL (Primary) Amylodiosis: A trial of a unique combination of chemotherapy agents -- Lenalidomide, Melphalan, and Dexamethasone. The Stanford Amyloid Center is enrolling patients who are either starting treatment or who have not had adequate responses on other treatment.  The Stanford Amyloid Center is the only institution performing this study.

ATTR (Transthyretin) Amyloidosis: A multicenter registry trial to better understand the natural history of the disease.  A therapy trial with a novel agent aimed at inhibiting further amyloid progression may begin as early as 2010.

Ask your physician whether you qualify for these or other clinical trials.
