Stanford Adult Congenital Cardiology

At our multidisciplinary heart clinic, we specialize in adults who are born with congenital heart defects. Although most will have undergone corrective surgery, some may not have been previously treated, or may have recently discovered complex residual conditions requiring therapy involving drugs, interventional procedures, or surgery.

The adult congenital cardiology clinic at Stanford offers:

  • Talented cardiothoracic surgeons who are leaders in repairing congenital heart lesions across all age groups
  • Expertise in ACHD (Amplatzer closure of ASDs', transcatheter valve replacement, and hemodynamic catheterization)
  • Close relationships with teams like maternal-fetal medicine, heart failure, and heart-lung transplant
  • World-class outcomes despite a high percentage of patients with very complex congenital heart problems

Adult Congenital Cardiology: Patient Story

Daniel Murphy, MD, discusses the case of Deepa Sampathkumar, a patient with pulmonary stenosis, making pregnancy life-threatening to herself and her unborn child. Through the multi-disciplinary collaboration of Stanford experts, this new family is now safely home.
