Conditions not directly related to the heart can also affect heart function and cause arrhythmias. Such medical conditions can include:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Diabetes
- Over-active or under-active thyroid gland (too much or too little thyroid hormone produced)
- Sarcoidosis affecting the heart
