What is Amyloidosis?
Amyloidosis is a cardiovascular disease characterized by an abnormal build up of proteins (called amyloids) in various organs in the body. These amyloid proteins develop in places such as the heart, kidneys, nerves, and gut. Because the underlying cause of amyloidosis varies depending on which amyloid protein is being deposited, the treatment options vary as well.
